Building models

BIM Glossary

Building models

Building models are digital representations of structures or buildings that are created using Building Information Modeling (BIM) software. They represent the components of a building in an object-based manner and contain detailed information about their shape, structure, materials and functions. Each specialist planner creates his or her specific model, which enables efficient information management throughout the entire life cycle of a building - from the initial design idea to dismantling and recycling. These models act as a central database for everyone involved in the project and enable smooth collaboration as well as thorough analysis, planning and execution of construction projects. They are used for visualizations, collision checks, quantity and cost calculations as well as for facility management after the building has been completed. In summary, building models offer an integrated and effective method for planning, implementing and managing construction projects.
