data management

Effective data management is crucial for construction projects to avoid information loss and minimize processing effort. Often, problems such as misplacing important notes or missing current construction plans are due to inadequate data management. Unstructured storage of project data leads to inefficient workflows and makes communication between project participants difficult. It is crucial that collected data is systematically stored and made accessible to all project participants in order to create an effective communication and coordination tool. Effective data management requires that information requirements are brought along the supply chain to the place where the information is created or can be produced most efficiently. Information must be transferred to the model immediately and in a structured manner as soon as it is generated.

In the area of BIM data management, all aspects of the value chain are integrated and misunderstandings are avoided. This takes place over the entire life cycle of a construction project and significantly improves decision-making. The data transport and the structure of the data storage are determined by various factors, including the requirements of the information delivery, internal processes of the companies involved, the planning steps required to achieve the project goals and the chosen environment. Effective data management is therefore crucial to increase the efficiency of construction projects and minimize errors and delays.

The following illustration illustrates how information breaks in the project repeatedly lead to a loss of information:
