FM – Facility Management

BIM Glossary

FM – Facility Management

The term facility management (FM) describes everything that contributes to improving the effectiveness of a building during its use. This usually involves managing and operating the building and its ancillary facilities through processes that are not part of the core business of this use, but support it.

The use of BIM- models can bring benefits to clients and operators , as digital models can be used to create a long-term archive and thus provide an overview of risks and problems and enable them to be better assessed. These building models also serve as a central database for everyone involved in the project, ensuring smooth collaboration and thorough analysis, planning and implementation of construction projects.
