MVD - Model View Definition

BIM Glossary

MVD - Model View Definition

MVDs are defined standard model views or implementation layers for outputting model information in a specific context or for a specific use case. They define a specific data exchange scenario and provide the IFC‐expressions (classes, attributes, relationships, property sets, set definitions, etc.) that must be present in a specific use case or workflow. MVDs thus enable standardization and interoperability when using IFC files in different software applications and projects.

predefined MVD:

IFC 2x3 - Coordination View 2.0(building design and construction)

IFC 2x3 ‐ Structural Analysis View(structural planning and design)

IFC 2x3 ‐ FM Handover View (PropertyManagement and Administration)

IFC 2x3 - Space Boundary Add‐on View
