BIM Glossary

BIM-Author

A BIM author, often referred to as a BIM designer or BIM modeler, plays a crucial role in creating the professional data model of a building. In coordination with the BIM coordinator , the BIM author edits the building data model and adds information according to the contractually agreed quality standards and BIM standards.

The main tasks include the creation of specialist models, the timely transmission of data in accordance with the delivery object plan and, optionally, participation in model-based planning meetings. In addition, the BIM author has data sovereignty over the technical and sub-models they create. Within the model-based communication, the BIM author is also responsible for dealing with conflicts and tasks in order to ensure smooth collaboration.
