BIM maturity is a useful tool to assess and manage progress in the use of BIM. Companies and projects often strive to move to higher levels to fully exploit the benefits of BIM in terms of efficiency, cost savings and quality improvement.
Level 0 (Traditional or Paper-Based): Here, conventional 2D CAD plans are still used and data is exchanged in the form of printed plans on paper. BIM is not yet used.
Level 1: In normal day-to-day project work, conventional 2D plans are still used. There is no central project platform on which the data is stored. Individual data is sent as needed.
Level 2: Describes the work with BIM software to create digital building models, whereby the respective specialist planners create their own models. These are regularly compared with each other to see whether, for example, a detail does not fit into the overall model. To enable this process, the data is exchanged via a central project platform, using different file formats. The regular transmission of information to the client takes place via data sheets that have a predefined structure. This includes tables and alphanumeric information for building operations.
Level 3 (Big Open BIM): Es werden ISO-standards are used and applied for data exchange, process description and a digital model for the entire life cycle.Data management is carried out using cloud technology.
