IFD – International Framework for Dicitionaries

The International Framework for Dictionaries (IFD) is a standard library based on an international standardization, the recognized and open ISO-Standard, in particular ISO 12006-3. In addition to IFC, IDM and MVD , IFD was also developed by buildingSMART International which is why it also forms the basis for the buildingSMART Data Dictionary (bSDD).

The IFD library provides flexibility for an IFC-based BIM-model and allows this model to be linked to various databases containing project and product-specific data. Existing knowledge can also be easily linked and a large number of existing models enable analyses, simulations and design reviews to be carried out at an early stage. Product-specific data for operation and maintenance purposes can also be stored in the library. IFD also supports multilingual information, which facilitates international collaboration.
