Collision check

BIM Glossary

Collision check

Collision checking is an important part of coordinating Specialist models in various areas of construction. Model elements are checked for geometric overlaps in order to identify and resolve conflicts between the plans of different trades at an early stage. This check is carried out using rule-based check routines as part of BIM-coordination. Despite the use of reference models to avoid conflicts, conflicts can still arise due to the division of labor. The merging of specialist models and collision detection are usually carried out using BIM integration software and special BIM model checker software. In addition to collision checking, model management is also an important aspect that requires further test criteria as well as the definition of a coordination plan and a data delivery plan.
