The need for new and collaborative forms of collaboration

The increasing digitalization in various work areas requires new and collaborative forms of cooperation, especially in the construction industry. The BIMiD project, which was funded with federal funds, demonstrates this impressively. Originally launched in 2013, when the Development of BIM was still in its early stages, the project aims to illustrate the advantages of BIM through concrete example projects.

The construction industry in Germany is facing the challenge of adapting to new requirements due to increasing specialization and the associated fragmentation of planning. This leads to an increased complexity of construction projects in which many companies have to work together to coordinate their business processes. In particular, the many mutual dependencies and interrelationships require improved cooperation.

The use of BIM and other IT-supported methods offers the opportunity to overcome these challenges. Through better reuse of information, knowledge and experience as well as improved communication and collaboration, fragmented work processes can be reduced and quality assurance increased. The digital exchange of project information also enables more efficient provision of information at the right time and accelerates decision-making processes.

Although BIM and similar methods are already widely used in countries such as the USA, England and Scandinavia, there is still a lot of catching up to do in Germany, where the construction industry is dominated by many small and medium-sized companies. It is therefore important that the industry actively promotes these new approaches to collaboration in order to meet the increasing demands and increasing time and cost pressures.
